DENVER (INTELLIHUB) — The Denver International Airport (DIA) is nestled on a vast 53 square mile complex and is owned and operated by the City of Denver.  In fact, it’s the largest airport in the United States, in terms of land mass garnered, and the second largest airport in the world to Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd International Airport as I pointed out in my appearance on the Travel Channel series America Declassified.

Military to fund implantable device to treat PTSD.....

Treating mental illnesses across the USA is wrought with imperfections. Existing treatments like psychotherapy and medications aren’t guaranteed to work, especially over time.

The military’s research arm is taking a different tack in funding a $26 million project to develop a device implanted in the skull. The goal is to stimulate parts of the brain as a way to treat psychiatric disorders including depression, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is funding the five-year project led by University of California, San Francisco and Massachusetts General Hospital.

An implanted device could allow researchers to stimulate specific parts of the brain in ways not previously possible.

For example, if a patient is treated for depression with Prozac, the entire brain is affected by elevated levels of serotonin, said Dr. Emad Eskandar, a neurosurgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital and one of the lead researchers on the DARPA project.

“It’s much better to fix the actual part of the brain that’s not working properly and not just bathe the whole brain with a chemical soup that has some undesirable side effects,” Eskandar told USA TODAY Network.

Implantable devices are already used to treat Parkinson’s disease, with a device implanted in the chest and a wire that runs up to the brain. But these devices can only target one or two areas of the brain, said Justin Sanchez, DARPA program manager.

The DARPA-funded device could potentially be implanted between the scalp and skull and target several parts of the brain, depending on the disorder, Sanchez said.

What’s more, the device will allow researchers to observe brain activity in real-time, which could be particularly helpful with disorders like PTSD that are “episodic” in nature, Eskandar said.

“Someone might hear a loud noise that triggers a fearful or anxious response,” he said. “So you don’t want to continuously deliver stimulation unnecessarily.”

The project is part of President Obama’s Brain Initiative, a $100 million effort to research brain mapping that could lead to new ways of treating a wide range of brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s, autism and traumatic brain injury.

DARPA has previously funded research for implantable devices that would help restore memory.

In a tizzy of media fury, the latest supposed mass gunman/internet weirdo serial killer has emerged with a new angle: “Men’s rights” and “misogyny.”  However, the latest installment also follows the classic pattern of the recent psy ops of Cho at Virginia Tech, Anders Breivik, Jared Loughner, James Holmes and Adam Lanza.  It is in this pattern that we see the evident fraud manifest and this pattern, I will argue, is the key to identifying when these events, from Manson to Columbine, from Cho to Rodgers, are real or staged.

The recent boogeyman, Elliot Rodger, is the son of Hunger Games assistant producer Peter Rodger.  Immediately following the shooting that has supposedly left seven dead, liberal media is fingering males, gun owners and masculinity as the problem.  Any website that is visited by anyone or linked by anyone is thereby implicated in mass murder.  Never mind how rational or coherent this dubious association is, the logic-free media was primed and ready to immediately lump all “conservatives,” “men,” “right wingers,” misogynists” and “men’s rights” site visitors all into the same bucket – you’re all American Psycho serial killers!

Time: Have we as a species learned nothing from Minority Report? A Silicon Valley company called Knightscope is currently testing a prototype robot designed to detect and monitor criminal activity, much the way a police officer or a security guard would.

The Knightscope K5 is a five-foot-tall autonomous robot (one presumes that its resemblance to a Dalek is merely coincidental) that roams around your neighborhood, observing and gathering data and trying to predict where and when criminal activity will occur.

Knightscope is developing technology that will predict and prevent crime with an innovative combination of hardware, software and social engagement.

It carries no weaponry, but it has a pretty complete sensor package that includes thermal imaging, license plate reading and facial recognition. This takes public surveillance a step beyond stationary cameras, and the challenges to personal privacy are clear. The K5 could do a whole lot of good by deterring crime, especially in neighborhoods that lack the resources to field an adequate police presence.
